Christian stewardship is a natural part of a life of faith. Most people don’t like to consider money a sacred object, but scripture is rich with references to it. Jesus had much to say about stewardship. Sixteen of his parables deal with the way we handle our material possessions. The Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, deals with the topic of stewardship of earthly possessions more times than any other topic. Your earning ability is a gift from God (Deuteronomy 8:18). Budgets are a good thing (Luke 14:28). Giving back is a way of honoring God (Proverbs 3:9). God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). As Christian stewards, we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. A sustainable church is not just a way to make ends meet. It is also a way to live the Gospel message on a communal level. It is our call at Holy Comforter to use the gifts God has given us wisely and to multiply and use them to extend our ministry to more people in more creative ways, now and for generations to come.
