BAPTISM
Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. The bond, which God establishes in Baptism, is indissoluble. It marks a formal entrance into the congregation and the wider Church in which the candidates or sponsors make a series of vows to follow Christ. People of all ages are welcome to be baptized. CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is a sacramental rite in which candidates express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. REAFFIRMATION
The rite of reaffirmation is celebrated with a confirmed Episcopalian who, for personal reasons, wishes to again publicly reaffirm their baptismal vows to the bishop and the community. It is comparable to a married couple publicly reaffirming their vows at a significant time in their marriage. As in the case of reception, we pray that the Holy Spirit continues to transform and deepen the candidate’s faith. RECEPTIONS
Reception refers to a rite by which a baptized person, already confirmed by a bishop, is welcomed into the fellowship of the Episcopal Church. It too is a public affirmation; like those being confirmed and involves the laying on of hands by an Episcopal bishop. WEDDINGS
Wedding services at Holy Comforter are performed from the Book of Common Prayer. Holy Comforter clergy are honored to officiate at your wedding and will be assigned by the Rector. The participation of other clergy is welcome, in consultation with the Rector. We are pleased to open the doors of Holy Comforter to all those who wish to be married here. FUNERALS
Funeral services at Holy Comforter are performed from the Book of Common Prayer. A funeral service in the Episcopal Church is an Easter service. It finds all meaning in the resurrection.
